[opensuse] Setting up Dailup in Suse10.1
Got to setup in Suse10.1 a Dialup connection and I have never set one up in Suse. This computer I purchased from Fry's Electronics and it had Linspire5.0 installed so I'm sure the modem will be recognized by Suse10.1 What driver does Suse use to run the modem, I think it is Smartmodem isn't it? And what App. do I need installed on Suse to run Dialup settings? I need to get this setup before my niece wants to go back to $WindBlows. You'll need to be sure all your smartmodem files are installed from the DVD then use YaST2 to set up the modem. If all goes well, you should have a working connection after finishing. Be sure to set the timeout to 0 (zero) so it doesn't disconnect after a few minutes. Also, Linspire may have included the proprietary kernel modules/drivers for it, if it's a winmodem, which may not be included with SuSE 10.1. You may have to resort back to Linspire for those should it not work right away with your SuSE setup. good luck, Lee --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have Mandrake 10.1 on an Thinkpad A30P and the win modem is recognized. Being smart I set up a second HD for the above Thinkpad but substituted commercial SuSE 10.1 which supposedly includes the same win modem which for some reason is not recognized even when I manually install the win modem program. The win-modem program is not included in the free down load of OpenSuSE.
