Hello All : I have a few questions regarding the installation of SuSE 8.0. First of all, let me say that the install program detects all my hardware, so its not a hardware issue. At first, I wanted to try the FTP installation. I have a DSL connection over PPPoE. However, I was unable to find the option to load the PPP driver in the modules disks (that I burned from the images). Is there a way to have the installation program dial a PPPoE connection to connect to the internet when installing from FTP? I decided to download the suse directory from the the FTP to a partition on my local hard disk (FAT32 formatted partition), and use the harddisk option at install. The installation program detects my partition, however, when I give it the location /suse as the source directory, it replies with the error "image file not found". Is there a way to fix this situation? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Burhan burhankhalid@members.evolt.org

try "suse" instead of "/suse"

Tried that -- didn't work. Any other ideas how to install it? At first, it says it can't mount the partition, then it says that image file not found. I tried "suse" "suse/images" and even "suse/a1". Any suggestions please?

Try / This will work if you downloaded the file .S.u.S.E-disk-001.2002061414 (wget ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/8.0/.S.u.S.E-disk-001.2002061414) and put it under the root of your vfat-partition. The installation program wants to know what direcory on the partition the directory suse is in, and that is / unless you put it under some other directory. If you have't got .S.u.S.E-disk-001.2002061414, the best way is to make a directory, for example hammarbynisse, move suse and .S.u.S.E-disk-001.2002061414 to that directory and answer /hammarbynisse when asked for installation directory. If you can't mount the partition that is because you didn't load the vfat module. Good luck Anders -- The nice thing about standards is that there are so many of them to choose from. -- Andrew S. Hey thanks -- that worked. However, now I've run into another problem. The installation works, but it can't find the source (which is stored in /dev/hda4), because the installation mounts /dev/hda4 as /mnt/windowsD. I have tried to launch a new shell and manually umount the /mnt/windowsD, however, after that I cannot get back to the install screen. If I hit CTRL+ALT 1, it just says reading display (and halts). My only choice is to reboot, after which I am back to where I started. Can anyone help me with this situation? I am so close, Thanks, Burhan

I ran into the same problem as you and fixed it (as far as I remember) by downloading the .S.u.S.E-disk-001.2002061414 file and putting it in the installation directory. It is my understanding that that file tricks the installation program to think that the mounted partition is CD1 of the installation set. I also suggest that you don't assign a mount point to your vfat-partition during installation but do that after the installation. Best regards Anders -- Lackland's Laws: (1) Never be first. I copied the entire suse directory to my harddrive (apart from the commerical program RPMs)

Where do I find this file? I've tried searching ftp.suse.com but can't seem to find it. Thanks again, Burhan
