Stuart, By following the advice in some other e-mails, I finally got to where I was having the same problem as you. In my case it was caused because I had a poor network setup on my Win98 box. When I did a "ipconfig /all" on the windows box, it showed 2 different ethernet ports even though I only have one NIC. The first one had an IP of 0.0.0.0. I went to control panel, network and deleted the unused network and rebooted The XWin -query server command is now working for me. Maybe you also have something funny with your windows network config. Greg
/var/log/messages
It shows up as soon as I attempt a connection. Cygwin then ultimately times out and kills the X window that it opened.
Bye for now, Stuart.

Stuart,
Which log file is showing the below errors.
I've checked the ones in /var/log and I don't see any errors.
