Re: [SLE] 2 Questions about results of ifconfig ...
I am trying to set up a Linux box to be a proxy for my Internet connection via cable modem. I am using SuSE 6.4. Here is the output if I do an ifconfig. Two questions about it follows: eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 08:00:09:2B:7B:70 inet addr:24.166.xxx.xxx Bcast:255.255.255.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:6 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:6 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:100 Interrupt:3 Base address:0x300 DMA chan:5 eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr C1:C1:C1:C1:C1:C1 inet addr:192.168.1.1 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:6 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:6 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:100 Interrupt:10 Base address:0x320 DMA chan:3 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:3924 Metric:1 RX packets:40 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:40 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 Question 1: The HWaddr of eth1 is not being read in correctly. The real numbers are 00:60:B0:1D:36:64. The DOS utility that came with the card to flash its memory (for address, DMA, IRQ, etc.) displayed the correct address (confirmed by looking at the numbers on the card myself). How can I get Linux to read the number correctly? Question 2: Other than the HWaddr of eth1, is there anything else that looks funny? I showed the ifconfig output to a friend and he thought that the RUNNING MULTICAST on eth1 looked fishy. Can someone tell me if this looks right for what I want to do, and if not, inform me on how I can correct it?
