what does that mean ?

as it can't be a corrupted rpm dowload ? I am sure HD is sane, because the Suse 7.0 pro has been installed from scratch only few days ago without a single error.

does cpio need an upgrade ?

can the original rpm be corrupted ??(I doubt so)

can this have something todo with using ReiserFS for / partition (was new in 7.0)

(note: my current kernel is the default pentium optimized one, and I backed up /boot before trying this; for anyone interested in making this, reccomend also backing up other important stuff; as you can see the script started removing something to the make the upgrade and if not successfull you can get in trouble)

Just a guess as you are running SuSE 7.0 -- it may be a problem the the version of rpm that you are using. I believe you are using ver. 3.x and the newer kernel rpm is built (I think) using ver. 4.x.
