Same here Joop :-) A lot of problem heh, sound, DVD etc, but I'm a fanatic fans of this distribution ;-P I saw someone also complaint about yast-partition, but my opinion partition is improving. I think partition team already announce the new yast-partition even before 11.1 going to beta. And we should contribute to the test at that period. I wouldn't call myself a fanatic, but I have tried RedHat/Fedora, Ubuntu, Kubuntu (but couldn't get used to their way of handling su/sudo), Slackware, Mandriva, Debian but I find I keep coming back to (open)SUSE. It's become my distribution of choice and since the release of 10.3, I haven't looked at anything else (except Ubuntu). OpenSUSE 10.x was a good release imo, except the poor/slow package management. 11 so far is a lot better in that aspect, but brings new problems with it. Like the "no sound" issue we are having.

Actually my workaround is based on wodim readme to set wodim as suid-root application. Default installation of /usr/bin/wodim is owned by root.root and permission is 755. I make a group dvdburners, and put my non-root user account as a member of this group. Try creating a LVM on top of a RAID array. This worked fine in 11.0, but I've not been able to in 11.1

When I tried to initially create a RAID 1 device, it demanded to have 2 disks, rather than let me, add one later when I was ready to silver. So I gave up at that point. Presumably there's nothing in the underlying tools that stops you from creating, incomplete, initial setups, to be completed later when hardware resources become available? my system misses the "+" sign discussed on that page, k3b can not even see the drive(external, mounted on usb), but nerolinux has absolutely no problem with it. k3b used to like too, a looong time ago. has anyone tried the "old" cdrkit, before the wodim "fork"?

resmgr schould change the permissions of the cd/dvd writer device so that you can write on it. resmgr does this if you login on your graphical environment (kde, gnome, ...). resmgr sets acls on that device (see "man setfacl" and "man getfacl"). resmgr fails, if your group has no name. This often happens if you use ldap or simply if you upgrade or move user accounts from one machine to another. Check this: type "id -ng". If you see a number, you have to fix that. If you see a name, then you may have hit another bug. Do a "su" and then type: "resmgr dump" to see if resmgr gave you some permissions. The difference between user and users is that with users anyone can unmount a drive mounted by another user. This means that there is definitely a problem with: 1. what hal considers worthy of gaining device permissions. 2. what k3b tells hal it needs. 3. what hal reads as a proper device. 4. what hal does after a proper permission request is issued. 5. what k3b does after it receives a proper permission. since nerolinux can do the job just fine, it is more probable that the problem(s) lie with wodim, the engine behind k3b. A further indication of that is the fact that after k3b is started, any further access to the dvd is dissallowed until an "rchal restart" is invoked. if that's the case, does this rehash the battles between "old" cdrecord /cdrkit and wodim? this bug has been around for a while... also..... Since hal and k3b are packaged together in suse releases, it also becomes a suse problem. I will try Florian's resmanager suggestions on my workhorse 10.3 install. I will also try whatever is suggested on the 11.0 install before the upgrade it to 11.1.
