I know there have been a lot of discussions about problems related to YaST, Zen, etc., and maybe this was also discussed earlier, but I don't recall it. Anyway, in 10.0, when I ran YOU, the first screen

Online Update Setup seems to only be talking about automatic updating. Online Update Configuration doesn't have anything to do with selecting mirrors either. Has this option been completely eliminated?
Thanks, Greg Wallace
Now I see that Online Update Configuration does pick a mirror for you, but it doesn't allow you to do any selecting.
You can change it in the Installation Sources dialog.
(However you have to look up a mirror near you yourself.)
I seem to be missing something, then. I started YaST (10.1 fresh install from the boxed set CDs) and fired up YOU. YOU trundled for a while then said no patches available. This is a bit odd, given that 10.1 has been out for a few weeks. So, still in YaST, I invoke "Configure Online Update". It starts a big dialoge with "Help" down the left side and five checkable items in the middle of the big right-side pane: Configure later Configure now (recommended) Hardware profile Optional information Registration code I click It eventually comes back with "Online Update Configuration Your configuration was successful An update server has been added to your configuration" If I click "Details" it replies: http://mirror.mcs.anl.gov/suse/update/10.1/ The only thing I can do to that selection is "OK" it. There's no dialog option to type over it or to browse for another mirror. Then I finish the main dialog, go back to run YOU, and it still reports No Patches Available. Well, I have a mirror, and it has now been checked against the current installed package list in my system and found to have no updates. Cool. Thus, I conclude that SuSE 10.1 retail CD edition, including the hundreds of apps that I installed, is incredibly secure, and still does not need any security patches or fixes. Wow. On all my previous purchases/installs of SuSE, YOU has provided several patches per week... at least... starting from Day 1. When I installed, I left out Xen and sources and a lot of the developer stuff, but I included almost everything else. You'd think that one of those many, many hundreds of packages would have shown a vulnerability by now. Hell, apache always has something to apologize for... But I guess not. SuSE YOU says I'm perfectly up-to-date. How much should I trust this cozy feeling of security? What is it that I'm SUPPOSED to be doing? Also, where _is_ the part of the dialog where you can change the selection of mirror that YaST has set.
