OS: 9.0 After last week's security bulletin, I downloaded kernel k_deflt-2.4.21-215 OK but failed to download kernel-source after two tries. (I have a very slow and unrelaiable dial up connection.) Question: Can I go ahead and install k_deflt withour the kernel-source? (There were several other much smaller downloads which did not install: mc, ethereal, etc. I assume I shoul manually install them as well.?) Thank you, Lucky Leavell

Dear Lucky, Did you get that Kernel from Mantel's site at SUSE? Without the sources you may have trouble setting up the NVIDIA drivers fron NVIDIA; they require the sources. Hi. I want to get rid of the blue display on tty1 after boot and have tty1 the same as tty2/3/..... black on white. It must be simple! Well, I don't know if simple is the correct word, but it can indeed be done. These things are defined in the bootsplash setup, but where that setup can be found depends on your version of SusE. In 8.2 it was somewhere in the usr/share directory, but in 9.1 I managed to locate them in the /etc/bootsplash directory. Afterwards you'll need to run mkinitrd to make the changes sink in. I don't know exactly how I did it, but I did manage to change both the screen on tty1 and the bootsplash screen on my arcade machine, so it _is_ possible. :) Regards, Pieter Hulshoff

It is: Yast2->System->/etc/sysconfig Editor->System->Splash = NO... Jerry P.S. Tips there is a search button in the /etc/sysconfig editor, that's how I found it for you 8-) !
Thanks, Pete.

hi, you can edit the file /etc/sysconfig/bootsplash at the bottom change the line SPLASH="yes" to SPLASH="no" and then as root run, SuSEconfig /sbin/SuSEconfig Then reboot?!? BB

They were from the YoU FTP site at suse.de. I don't use NVIDIA so that part should not be a problem, should it? Thank you, Lucky
