Dear Mr. Tsarmpopoulos, ~ many thanks for reply . . . the problem with greek accent [ oxeia ] is system-wide, not just Open Office. I have same difficulty with SuSE vers 9.0 , although am using SuSE 8.0 daily. The KDE Greek material installed is [ for SuSE 8.0 ] :- kde3-i18n-el-3.2.1-0.rpm At Control Center : English 1st language + Greek 2nd Language Keyboard : English & Greek 2nd Option The small ikon in 'Kicker' band at bottom of screen, EN or EL allows switching netween Greek & English. All the usual Greek Fonts are installed . . . Hellas Times etc. In Greek, everything works OK, except i can NOT produce the Accent for vowels [ oxeia ] . . . When I can produce 'oxeia' everything will be perfect :) Thank you so much. best wishes ____________ sent on Linux ____________

Ok first of all go to yast-->System-->sysconfig editor-->system-->environment-->language and set RC_LANG to el_GR.UTF-8 Then in the KDE control center go to Regional & Accessibility-->Country region & Language and if Greek isn't listed in the Locale tab add it using the "Add Language" button In Openoffice goto Tools-->Options-->Language Settings-->Languages and set the locale to greek. (that doesn't help with the rest of the system but you will have better greek support in openoffice) Also in yast-->system-->keyboard layout i have chosen a greek keyboard layout That's all I remember doing to have correct greek support (with the oxeia). I hope it works out. By the way, I don't know if you already looked, but you can find a lot of useful information in http://www.linux.gr http://www.hellug.gr and more specifically you can search linux-greek-users mailing list archives at http://search.hellug.gr/?ul=lists.hellug.gr%2Fpipermail%2Flinux-greek-users%... You can find a Howto about greek localisation at http://members.hellug.gr/djart/articles/grlinux/grlinux.html

Dear Mr. Tsarmpopoulos, Thank you so much for taking the trouble to explain your steps. ~ step by step I have implimented them all, but, for my system, the 'Oxeia' Accent still escapes me . . . I shall have to do some more digging, as you kindly suggest. best wishes ____________ sent on Linux ____________

Dear Mr. Tsarmpopoulos,
Terrific . . . Success! . . . Thanks a Ton :)
Got the Greek 'Oxeia' Accent working fine in SuSE 9.0 with RC_LANG set to : el-GR.ISO-8859-7
{ seems not possible with SuSE 8.0 }
Thank you so much for taking the trouble to explain your steps.
best wishes
