[opensuse] Compose keys for Unicode?
How may a Unicode character be entered using the "compose" keys? The character I want to use is a Greek Capitol Ohmega (Ω) but I haven't found that combination. I have several that I use frequently such as "compose S S" to produce ß or "compose m u" for µ but haven't found the Omega combination. For me "AltGr + Q" works (on german keyboard layout). Usually you could look for compose keys here /usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose But seems there is no compose key for Ω per default, probably because you can type it without compose key. cu, Rudi -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It works on my English(UK) keyboard (opensuse 12.2, KDE 4.10.2). Is there any setting I can check to compare it with yours? John -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You can simply define custom compose keys like this in your ~/.XCompose ------------ # Import default rules from the system Compose file: include "/usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose" <Multi_key> <O> <m> : "Ω" UCEA9 # GREEK CAPITAL LETTER OMEGA <Multi_key> <o> <m> : "ω" UCF89 # GREEK SMALL LETTER OMEGA ------------ cu, Rudi -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

In Configure Desktop, Input Devices, Keyboard setting, you can add other keyboard layouts, including Greek Modern. Once you have done that, you can switch between keyboards by pressing Ctl-Shift or clicking on the icon that should be on the bar. With the Greek keyboard, I was able to type these characters: ωΩ by pressing v and V. The lower case version "ω" is often used in math & engineering and of course "Ω" is used in electricity & electronics for "ohm". I normally use the U.S. International layout, because it brings in a lot of commonly used symbols that are not available with U.S. Standard. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout#Greek -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

The U.S. International keyboard does not provide ω & Ω. Those come from the Greek keyboard. If you set up two layouts, as I mentioned, it's very easy to switch between them. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

On my computer, that file has it, both upper and lower case, several time. However, I have no idea how to use that list to generate the character. Is it possible to map it to a keyboard?
