think the easiest way to try the latest evolution is to download "red-carpet" form ximian.org, but without the desktop (in case you don't want to download the ximian desktop). it's an simple install-tool, you don't have to compile stuff. easy!

Have you used the Advanced Package Tool (apt) for SuSE? You may find it ease of use as convenient as red-carpet. The advantage of apt is that there are much more susefied packages available compared to red-carpet.
