[SLE]Upgrade to 10.0 grub setup failed
I am trying to upgrade 9.3 to 10.0. After numerous packages failed to load, I finally got to the point where grub was to upgrade. At this point I get an error that it cannot find the hard drive / partition it is looking for. Is there some way that I can get to a command line and find out what is going on. Find out what hard drive it is actually seeing and where it should put grub? I'm afraid of trying to continue, because I am concerned I will lose access to the personal files which I have installed. I can't remember right now if they are ext3 or reiserfs.

If you have packages that are failing to load, you either have a problem
with the installation media or your RPM database. If your RPM database is
corrupted, I strongly suggest you do a clean install.
If you do not have a separate /home file system I strongly suggest that you
back that up to removable media.
My home system is set up with a separate /home and /usr/local partition.
This way I can do a clean install without damaging either of those.
Although I usually recommend clean installs for an OS, the 9.3 to 10.0
upgrade worked very well for me.

I'm just curious, how many drives do you have? I have 2 IDE disks and have been suffering from this problem upgrading 9.1-9.2 and 9.2->9.3. Surpisingly, 9.3->10.0 went smoothly without this nasty problem, so it might be not your case.

You can switch to command line on virtual console 2 or 3 using Ctl-Alt-F2 or 3. Sorry, I don't remember exactly which console command line prompt is on. But I don't think it's gonna help you to move on from that point. Installer just gets stuck. What I did during previous upgrades to work around this problem, I had to physically disconnect second drive from IDE bus and then perform upgrade. After new system is installed I connect the second drive back. -Kastus
