CD Writer under SuSE Linux Pro 7.0
Hi, I am thinking of buying an IDE CDRom writer for my SuSE Linux 7.0 Professional box (Intel x86). Some limited details of a model that I have in mind are below. Are IDE CD writers well supported under SuSE? Do you think the one I have in mind will install and work with the minimum of "fuss"? What do other people recommend? Is it worth avoiding IDE and just sticking to a big brand name SCSI version? Any thoughts appreciated Many thanks Garry IDE CD Writer info: Internal 8/8/32 CD Writer Kit Stock Code : NOV-CDRW6 Product Information - Interface - ATAPI / Enhanced IDE - Buffer Size - 2MB - Average Access Time - 120msec (32x) - Data Transfer Rate - (at I/F) 16.7MB/sec. There shouldn't be any problem. The vast majority of IDE writers use the SCSI command set internally. Unless this is a strange burner, it shouldn't be any different. It should just be a case of 'modprobe ide-scsi'.

IDE does just as fine a job as SCSI IMHO. There will be some performance advantage with SCSI, but I wouldn't say it was worth the price premium.
