USB/MP3 stick (last try)
Hello, I think it is for the 3rd time I bugger you with my problem :-) Here is a short summary: - I've got a USB stick with MP3 player (Jamba), which cannot be accessed with SuSE 9.1 - it works, however, without any problems with - SuSE 8.x and 9.0, - Windows 2000 - Debian with kernel 2.6 I tried the following: - repartitioning and reformatting the drive (necessarily, I need to use FAT) on a SuSE 9.0 box - removing subfs from my SuSE 9.1 box -- I did that to check whether it was a subfs issue, by simply removing subfs.ko from the apropriate directory; since I could not rmmod it, I restarted the computer (grrr). So now I had a system without the subfs capability. - since one of the differences between 9.0 and 9.1 is the switch from kernel 2.4 to 2.6, I tried a 2.6.7 kernel on a Debian box. It worked OK, so it is not directly a kernel issue. However, even though it works with the 2.6.7 kernel on a Debian, I think it might be a problem with the SuSE version of kernel. Here is why I think this is the problem: - the problem reveals itself as soon as any tool, not just mount, tries to access the filesystem. E.g., fdisk /dev/sda freezes as well as mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb. - just after I insert the USB stick into the drive, I get the following message: Jul 6 13:30:26 alanin kernel: sda:end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 256000 Assuming that I would like to stick to SuSE 9.1, what can I do further to investigate this problem, how to proceed from here? Regards, j. -- Fire-fox your konqueror!
