[SLE] Installing OpenSSH on Suse...
Greetings. I was having problems accessing the mailing list archives for Suse, so I apologize if this has been asked before. I am moving from RedHat to SuSe and almost have everything working except for SSH. I am using a spec file that was obviously for RedHat and it is looking for 'chkconfig' which essentially adds an entry for starting 'sshd' in '/etc/rc.d/init.d' and then creates a symbolic link in /etc/rc.d/rc3.d'. Does SuSe have something similar or does someone have a modified spec file? Thanks. -Steve -- Steven J. Go to the Germen ftp site ftp://ftp.suse.de, and download OpenSSH from there. It installed prefectly on my 6.4 box. Victor -- "Let's get it straight: copyright infringement is not piracy. Hi, I just downloaded it but it failed to install. Here is what I keep getting:
rpm -q openssh openssh-1.2pre13-1 rpm -q rpm rpm-3.0.4-0 rpm -Fh ./openssh-1.2.3-12.i386.rpm only packages with major numbers <= 3 are supported by this version of RPM query of ./openssh-1.2.3-12.i386.rpm failed only packages with major numbers <= 3 are supported by this version of RPM query of ./openssh-1.2.3-12.i386.rpm failed no packages require freshening rpm -Uh ./openssh-1.2.3-12.i386.rpm only packages with major numbers <= 3 are supported by this version of RPM error: ./openssh-1.2.3-12.i386.rpm cannot be installed
what is wrong here? I remember vaguely to having installed openssh client (not the server) from a RH rpm. Should I just try to uninstall the old one and do a fresh install of the new openssh? It's possible that you might have to update your version of RPM. When I installed SSH on my SuSE 6.3 system, I compiled from the source and didn't have any problems. I'm not sure about OpenSSH and/or using RPMs. Christopher Reimer On Mon, 14 Aug 2000, Alex Angerhofer wrote:
