[opensuse] Disappearing pointer
I just installed the Open-suse 12.1 and now I have a small problem. When the pointer is over something like scroll bars the pointer disappears. Bob R -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Gnome or KDE4? Are you using the default theme or a customized one? -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Happens here in KDE3 and Gnome. Always disappears on window frames and in text windows like url bars and editor windows. Running kdm as well. An annoyance but doesn't seem to break anything. jd -- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

It sounds like an incomplete or broken mouse pointer library. When cursor is supposed to switch to a different cursor, it is not finding that icon file. I would go into personal settings (or what ever they called it on KDE3) and select a different Mouse cursor theme in the hopes of finding one with a complete set of mouse cursors. In KDE4 this is under Personal settings / Workspace Appearance / Cursor Theme. I have no recollection where you might find it under KDE3. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

The cursor does switch. It does not matter which cursor or theme is in use. If moved to the frame/border it disappears briefly. If left over the frame/border it disappears. Move the mouse and it reappears. jd -- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be related to the video card. I have an Nvidia 550 Ti and the OS supplied nouveau driver is very poor. After switching to an Nvidia supplied driver the problems cleared up. You might try a different video driver to see if that has any effect on your problem. Actually I had a very similar problem with an ATI video (on board) that disappeared when I changed to their proprietary driver. The mouse cursor would disappear or sometimes blink on/off so slowly it looked like it disappeared when hanging over almost any menu. I'm not seeing the cursor disappear in fvwm. Also not seeing cursor warping all over the screen, which seems to happen only with KDE3 so far.

Can't change drivers: Only the Silicon Motion driver still works so far and that one has been broken or crippled since Silicon Motion stopped supporting X on their hardware. No longer have accel, 3d or hardware cursor, etc. jd -- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
