I see there's a new Athlon kernel available through YOU for SuSE 9.0, possibly other versions too. I'm looking for feed back before I take the plunge. Has anyone done the deed? Rodney

Yes, no problems. However, it will take some time to download if you are on dialup. Whether or not on dialup, install the source code before you use YOU because there is also a patch for the source code. After it is installed run. in /usr/src/linux , 'make cloneconfig dep' before rebooting. Oh, if you have nVidia driver installed then on boot boot into 'init 3' uninstall and then reinstall the driver (and adjust the XF86config file in /etc for driver and the mouse if it has a scroll wheel) to be on the safe side. I didn't do this and got a black screen instead of X. Seems the nVidia driver needs to compile something new in the kernel to work correctly. In your case this may not be necessary but it the black screen occurs then you know what to do about it. Cheers. PS One final point. If you are using the drivers from Linuxant for an HCF or HSF Connexant/Rockwell PCI (internal) modem then download the new driver for the modem BEFORE installing the new kernel because you won't be able to get onto the 'net with the old driver (the modem will be dead, until the new driver is installed). -- Wagner's music is really not as bad as it sounds.

Basil, Thank you for your post and the advice. The kernel updates were downloaded and installed without problems. The previous nVidia kernel module worked. However, configuring the sources and re-installing the nVidia driver appears to make the graphics smoother. Logging in is also slightly quicker. Regards. LW999

Good, glad everything is working OK. I should have been a bit clearer in what I said above. When the patch to the kernel and source was installed, nVidia (and everything else) was working perfectly - until I rebooted at which time I got the black screen and had to re-install the nVidia driver. Cheers. -- Wagner's music is really not as bad as it sounds.

Yes. Seems to work fine. Haven't noticed any new issues or features that I don't need, if you know what I mean. Stan
