Will SuSE 8.2 recognize and use my new 160 Gig HD as a whole unit or should I make smaller partitions? ===== Stephen W Sarasota, FL "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine ..." Yes and how you divide it is up to you. If this is the only drive the most basic setup would have root and /swap. /swap would be as large as your main memory to 1.5x or 2x as much. Should leave you, what, 159GB for root? You may want a separate /home partition so upgrades are less painful and backups are easier. Don't format /home when upgrading. Some people advocate even more partitons for other directories for similar reasons; ease of backup, administration, booting multiple OSes, etc. Stan
