[SuSE Linux] XFree86 3.3.3-3 - animations and movies crash X immediately
Since I upgraded to XFree86 3.3.3-3, every time I try to diaplay movies or animations by running xanim (version 2.70.70) or if I try to run blender (version 1.36), X crashes immediately and I'm thrown straight back to the text console. Since both blender and xanim display this behaviour I have to suspect this version XF86 as the root cause. I am running a 2.0.36 kernel built from the sources off the SuSE ftp site, and the xf86-3.3.3-3.i386.rpm downloaded from the SuSE ftp site. My system has an AOpen AX59Pro motherboard (MVP3 chipset, with the unfortunately problematic revision CD north and south bridge) and an ATI Xpert@play AGP video card (Mach 64 chipset). I also have a DPT 2144UWR SCSI Raid controller for what it's worth. Can anyone offer any constructive comments? Surely if this version of XF86 is to blame then someone else will have seen this problem? Another problem; in both Netscape 4.06 and Netscape 4.50 I often get error windows with stderr output coming up. One of the worst cases is when I get "Xlib: unexpected async response". The program will throw these out at a rate of about one per second until I "killall -9 netscape". Is it a netscape problem or an Xlib problem? Ralph
