Hello, all. New to Linux, and I think it's first-rate (came from Solaris 2.5.1). I have noticed that if I get a few processes running, however, my mouse cursor will pause sporadically, though briefly. Like, if I move the mouse in a steady circular pattern, the cursor will freeze (just for half a sec) every few times 'round, usually during a disc access or something. I've tried renicing processes to no avail (especially the java culprit). This is a PS/2 mouse on an IBM machine. Is there anything I can do? Would the same thing happen with a serial mouse? It makes the whole interface experience seem jerky. Any help would be appreciated! __________________ Jon Snidal jonno@printsters.com -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

I downloaded both the .rpm and sources for xboing and cannot get it working under 5.1. The .rpm installed fine..., but no go. I then uninstalled it, grabed the source, compiled (with no errors) but still nothing. If anyone could help, please reply via email and I'll attach the error messages when executing xboing and other hopefully helpful info. OR, if no one objects I can just attach it to the list. Jon, 'need to know more about the system....hardware that is. There are a number of things that can cause this, video is one of them. Fred -- Fred A. Miller, Systems Administrator Cornell Univ. Hi, and thanks for your response. The machine is an IBM Pentium 100 (6885-PCH) with S3 Vision 864 video (1 meg) built-in and I am using the accelerated XServer (driver?) with SDAC and clock chip choices selected; also, an Adaptec 2940 SCSI adapter with Quantum Fireball discs. It's not like it's a huge problem, but annoying nonetheless; it makes things seem kind of disjointed. Each strange pause is accompanied by a disc access, I think. And even then, this only develops when a few things get going! Thanks again -- Jon. __________________ Jon Snidal jonno@printsters.com - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Hi Jon! Trying to kill the keyboard, jonno@printsters.com produced:

Aeh, pray tell, how much main memory does your box have? Does your xosview (I assume it's running (in the lower right corner, usually) show "PAGE" activity when these things happen? If yes, you may be very short on memory in that conditions which could lead to much swapping ... but if you change windows after some time (especially if on the page you change to Netscape is running) then it should take a few seconds for the windows to rebuild completely (i.e. all text is there etc.). -Wolfgang -- PGP 2 welcome: Mail me, subject "send PGP-key".
