RE: [SLE] ndiswrapper on Suse 10
Hello, Set up my Linksys card using ndiswrapper and everything looks good except I can't get a dhcp address assignment. When running 'rcnetwork restart' I get; wlan0 (DHCP) .... not IP address yet ... backgrounding. I can see the wireless network when using 'iwlist wlan0 scan'
From the command line how I force DHCP to get an address (and, possibly, wait a little longer before timing out)? Also, how can I pick a network (Cell 0#) from the command line to join?
Many thanks, ~James

Have you assigned the router as DHCP in /etc/resolv.conf ie: nameserver = 192.168.100.1 -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2

There is no need and actually the resolv.conf will get overwritten anyway when DHCP does it's thing. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998

I am not sure what you mean by "force DHCP to get an address", but from what I can remember of the standard you can't force it since you are asking permission from a dhcp server. As for timing out you can use the -t flag. For an "infinite" timeout use "-t 999999"

The iwconfig command is your friend. You'll want to specify the essid component: iwconfig wlan0 essid "Cell Name" S. -- -------------------------------------------------- Scott Pack spack@cs.ohiou.edu http://cidds.cs.ohiou.edu/~spack

You may also want to look into using NetGO for configuring the card. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998
