If anyone has any advice on how to proceed with trying to get Xine to play DVD's once my new install is complete I would be very grateful.
In my opinion the best way is to not install SuSE's xine at all. Do your SuSE installation with no xine and no kaffeine. Then go to http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xine/ and work your way through step by step. For each step determine which file you need and download it from the bottom of the page. I usually create a directory and download all the rpms into it. Once you have them all, enter this directory and type as root: rpm -Uvh *rpm Verify that xine is working (in my case it always is at this point). Then install kaffeine (in my case using the SuSE kaffeine was fine). Through several versions of SuSE this always gave me a perfectly working xine and kaffeine, including commercial DVDs.
