[opensuse] Any samba guru around?
Hi, I'm contemplating a new project setting a Samba Domain with many flavors of WinXP and Win7. The sane approach would be to unify all the clients with the latest service pack en each case. I'm wondering if this days the PDC/BDC model is still the only way to go. I'm planning to install 2 nodes on the main office with LDAP multimaster replication and one LDAP slave on each remote office. On top of that I'll be setting Samba3 PDC + BDC in the main office and a BDC in each remote office. I've read something about clustering with ctdb, is this a master/master alternative to the PDC/BDC model or it only works for clustering fileservers? The short answer is: yes but shoot a quick post to samba@lists.samba.org to make sure there are no Win7 issues. I just use samba in standalone mode, so I can't vouch for the pdc/bdc functionality, but -- that has been the standard for at least 8-9 years now. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Hi Ciro, I'm no Samba Guru... I use Aamba PDC with an openLDAP backend, so it would work. Windows7 needs a two registry tweaks. http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Windows7 You should also take a look at samba4. According to its specs, it mimics WinS2003/2008 AD, in case you find any use for it... According to their website the most important features are implemented.
