[opensuse] Problems with kernel upgrade 2.6.22.19-0.1 on SuSE 10.3
Anyone have problems with this kernel? After installing it, my machine wouldn't boot. I had to downgrade to an earlier kernel. I get messages like waiting for /dev/sda2 to appear (/dev/sda1 is /boot and /dev/sda2 is root) !boot/01-devfunctions.sh: line 68: multipath: command not found After it dumped me into a shell without root or /boot mounted, I did the "mount --bind" and chroot thing and built a new initrd with mkinitrd and it still didn't work. Also, is there any way to tell SuSE NOT to delete the old kernel when installing a new one. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

OK here so far on openSUSE 10.3 64 bit. I've had some problems, but I don't think they're related to the upgrade - mainly sound problems and a bit of a tussle with VMWare. Sorry I can't be of more help. Peter -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I expect I had the same issue yesterday. Unfortunately this is a remote system without access to the console. Please check bugzilla if there is a bug open on this. If not file a new one and add as many as possible details (root fs uses a LABLE or is identyfied by the by-id). Also please add me to cc.

Unfortunately I don't know a way for openSUSE 10.3. That's one of the reasons why I use yum. With 10.3 and 11.0 the update stack luckily got back to a reliable state again. With 11.1 zypper will even be able to maintain multiple versions of one RPM. See the "multiversion" parameter of a recent /etc/zypp/zypp.conf . I'm not using labels on the boot line. The boot line says root=/dev/sda2 and swap=/dev/mapper/swap (but it never processes the root=/dev/sda2 line correctly so the swap line probably has no effect). -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Please file a bug on this. The kernel developers are much, much better in asking the right questions. Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany

Hi Just had problems here with the newer kernel on 10.3 x86_64 it was hard locking all the time i found the fix was to do things the old way ie down load all the kernel files .... the kernel , kernel sources , kernel syms , ect ect and install by hand "rpm -ivh kernel.files.rpm.packagees" rebooted and it has been ok since . -- SuSE Linux 10.3-Alpha3.
