I'm still running 7.1 while I tinker with 8.1, but do to a "glitch" in the install of 8.1 I have to boot into 8.1 from the distro DVD. I'd like to add it to my menu options under 7.1 and need some advice. Under /boot for 7.1 I have the following files, among others: vmlinuz, vmlinuz_24, initrd, initrd_24, vmlinuz.suse, and initrd.suse. Under /boot in 8.1 I find, among others, vmlinuz, vmlinuz.suse, initrd, initrd.suse, and initrd.shipped. But nothing with the "_2419" or such that I would think necessary to make it work. At this point I'm thinking that LILO must do something itself with the files, but I'm just guessing. I was thinking that I could rename the 8.1 files vmlinuz to vmlinuz_2419 and initrd to initrd_2419 and copy them into the 7.1 /boot directory and make it work after adding something like: image = /boot/vmlinuz_2419 label = SuSE_8_1 root = /dev/sdc2 initrd = /boot/initrd_2419 to lilo.conf. The 8.1 distro is on my 3rd SCSI drive, and the 7.1 distro on the second SCSI drive. Am I even close to getting this right or is it time to did deeper into the books? tia, dave -- David C.
