[opensuse] KDE 4.11.2 update for openSUSE 12.3 64-bit
Hi All, I added the following repository http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/411/openSUSE_12.3/ and am seeing it in YaST, but I am not being offered lots of package updates via zypper or in Software Management. I raised the priority level for the new repository to no avail. What's the secret to triggering this update? TIA & regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Allow Vendor Changes. I did it in Yast, and once done there it persists in zypper, but I suspect there is a way do do it in Zypper too. You don't want to use that setting all the time, obviously. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks John, I looked at that but thought 'openSUSE' to 'openSUSE' isn't really a "vendor" change, is it? I'll enable it and report back. Thanks again! Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

That was it! :-) 4.11.2 seems to have installed flawlessly. I had to select 'KDE Plasma Desktop' from the drop-down list after rebooting and logging in for the first time. Thanks! Any package that goes from one repo to another is considered a vendor change. You can also use zypper dup with the --from option (<alias|#|URI> Restrict upgrade to specified repository). zypper dup -h is your friend. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yast is my friend. zypper is my nemesis. If Yast ever goes away, I'll be pissed. ;-) -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

"zypper lr" will show you the repo numbers. zypper dup --from <repo_number> Will pull everything it can from the given repo, even if the version number is older. dup is a powerful argument and should only be used if you're sure. Updating to that repo from oss with zypper isn't easy. KDE keeps changing package names so that dependencies come and go between that repo and standard repos. What seems to work (not easily) for me is to make note of failed deps from dup -r, then abort and install/upgrade those packages separately, after which dup -r again to get most. Follow up by inventorying which rpm -q output shows old packages remaining, and install each of those by version instead of repo. By picking the right ones you can get various others via dep instead of having to do so many individually. The complication smacks of trying to use rpm directly instead of via sophisticated wrappers like urpmi, yum and zypper. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
