I hate to go off topic away from how SUSE should market their product :) but maybe someone can tell me what might be going on when I try to run Quake II under SUSE 6.4. I assume it is a sound problem of some sort. Did a stardard kernel install so however they have the sound modules incorporated in the kernel by default. My sound was configured by alsaconf and works perfectly....other than letting Quake II initialize it. Weird because on my last install of SUSE 6.2 and not using alsa, sound under Quake II was no problem. Thanks for any input. This is the output I get when I try to execute the program: couldn't exec default.cfg couldn't exec config.cfg Console initialized. ------- sound initialization ------- sound sampling rate: 11025 Segmentation fault -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
I'm not sure about segmentation faults as such, but I had al sorts of problems with my upgrade to 6.4 and Q2. At the end of the day it was a combination of permissions and sound card settings.. Check you still have access to /dev/dsp, although it is likely that you have, also check that you have access to the default/config.cfg files, you may also wish to check these to see that you have access to the statements within. The other problem I had was with the starting settings for sounds, IIRC I ended up using the sound to mono and 8 bits. - I used to use )SS under 6.1 and it was fine until I upgraded. hope this helps ? Hi, Can anyone recommend a good Shell Account hosting company in the UK, ideally running SuSE, ideally with Root Access? Here is a listing of Free Shell accounts, I don't think any of them run linux though. http://geekweb.org/article.pl?sid=00/07/09/0539239&mode=thread You also might want to check with your ISP and see if they offer shell hosting. Most places aren't going to give you root access to their servers, probably the only way you are going to get this is if you have a dedicated server owned by you, but hosted by the isp's bandwidth (co-location hosting) Jack -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
Positive Internet offer web space etc including MySql, jserv and gnujsp, etc
off of suse.
I generally go in via ssh, but seem to recall you don't get root access
anymore as someone messed it all up when he did.
You'll find them at www.positive-internet.com and they are based in London.
Cheers

I have found one ISP's offering Shell accounts in the UK (business opportunity for someone there <g>)(www.uksolutions.co.uk/ukshells/) The only reason I need root access it to update "services" and "hosts.conf" when I install the database server (Interbase). I only need to add one line to each file, and that is the end of my root access ever. But they say no, even after offering them £50 for what is a two minute job. I have had a couple of 'private' offers offline, so I am investigating these options. I would rather give my money to somebody who wants it!
