[opensuse] disabling panel and desktop balloons in KDE4
Hello: The subject tells: how can I disable large balloons popping up when hovering the mouse over a desktop icon or application in the task manager in the panel in KDE4? I would prefer to have one line thick simple tooltips, how is it possible? Thanks, Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Article here: http://www.linuxbsdos.com/2012/05/21/how-to-disable-taskbar-thumbnails-in-kd... This pertains mostly to Panel icons. I don't know about desktop icons, because its 1995 any more and I refuse to allow any desktop icons. ;-) -- Explain again the part about rm -rf / -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You might as well not have a desktop!
I have some (not all that useful) widgets, and I have a panel with often used Apps and then the normal KDE menu (oldschool). My 4 desktops are covered with open applications most of the time, so icons on the desktop would be buried anyway. Icons would add to the clutter, but add nothing in usefulness. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Similar here, 8 desktops, among which only one can be seen peeking out from behind open app windows more than a wee bit most of the time. Even if they were visible, most wouldn't really be visible, because the only way I can be sure what most of them mean is from a balloon that pops up on hover. Most are too small to provide enough detail to tell me what I want to know, and it's only associated text that most times can. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Thanks. I read the referred article. I have all desktop effects disabled including the one mentioned in the article. Still the balloons are shown in/above all areas of the panel: taskbar, system tray and left to the taskbar. See the images: Left to the taskbar: http://i61.tinypic.com/2zh16ip.jpg Taskbar: http://i61.tinypic.com/otf7nk.jpg System Tray: http://i57.tinypic.com/2ns59ja.jpg What I'd like to have are tooltips with simple text only without balloons, as: http://i59.tinypic.com/2jg6iy1.jpg How can I? For the desktop icons, at least if you're talking about the ones inside a 'Folder View' widget, you can right click on the background of the widget (plasmoid). Next, click 'Folder Settings', then go to Icons, and under Behaviour uncheck 'Previews' and/or 'Click to view folder'. This is what I meant, i just did know it is called folder view.

I disabled both Previews and Click to view folder, it did not change the balloons: http://i59.tinypic.com/2eatoaq.jpg This is annoying and has no sense. I would like to have no tooltips at all, or something informative as in this example: http://i61.tinypic.com/egwm5t.jpg Thanks, Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
I don't have an answer. Like Felix I use a number of 'desktops' that I don't see because I have full screen applications, one per desktop. The box switcher is wonderful. I have no pop-ups and don't recall having them. KDE has so many settings .... *sigh* All I can tell you is that yes it is possible to have no pop-ups/balloons -- /"\ \ / ASCII Ribbon Campaign X Against HTML Mail / \ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks. It is good to know it is possible. I will experience further. Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
