Since they are TTF's you most likely have them in this directory. /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype That is if SuSE didn't change something. I've had the same couple hundred megs of TTF's for a while..so don't download them via YaST/YOU. BTW..if you give Mozilla 1.4 that has been compiled with GTK2 a try. I think you'll be surprized at the difference in it's font handling. :) Mine looks absolutely great. :) Cheers! -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.

Hi Ben, sorry if you've posted this before, but do you mean a particular binary distribution of Moz 1.4, and if so, where is it? Or if you compiled it, does what compile-time flags are needed for the GTK2 trick? Essentially the ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/mozilla/1.4/8.2-i386/mozilla*.rpm files ... and then I installed them with rpm -Uvh, because I hadn't got moz on the machine already. If I had, I'd proabably have used rpm -Fvh. I didn't d'load the .src.rpm because I am not keeping a source tree, but did download the development packages in case I happen to compile something that ask for the headers etc. The rest I put on for the sake of completeness, though I don't use irc, for example. To satisfy dependencies for the devel package I also had to download lib[whatever-it-was].rpm - that's just a matter of reading off the output from rpm and then getting the file(s) from your favourite mirror. I imagine you'd get the browser functionality from the basic mozilla rpm. I suppose you must need gtk-2 on the system as well, in my case it was already on. Having taken Johnny's advice and got the nice font handling, I must say I haven't actually bothered to check the relationship with gtk-2. HTH Fergus

I block APACHE except from localhost. When I did this, apache would not start. Go to Yast->System->runlevel editor and set "apache" on and "Enable Service". That should fix your problem. Regards.

Thanx for answering, but this is not the case. I have enabled apache, else it wouldn't fail to start. It wouldn't attempt to start at all! apache is enabled at runlevels 3 and 5. Any more ideas?

It seems to happen to a small number of users and isn't related to the firewall. One 'fix' is to use Apache2 instead. -- JDL Non enim propter gloriam, diuicias aut honores pugnamus set propter libertatem solummodo quam Nemo bonus nisi simul cum vita amittit.

Thanx for answering, but I can't use Apache2. I need to use PHP and PHP is not yer ready for Apache2. -Stathis.
It happened to me after I installed the nVIDIA drivers for my graphics card. I started in failsafe mode - the nVIDIA installation program quits if X is running, and failsafe mode seemed to be the simplest option - logged in as root, did the "sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4363.run"-thing and all went really fine building and installing the correct nVIDIA-drivers, but when I rebooted, Apache didn't start as usual any longer. Activating 3D went fine as well and nVIDIA's white screen was there and flashed every time X started and I could play 3D-games, but Apache still didn't start at boot. Installing Apache2 fixed it - Apache2 starts at boot - but a web server without PHP and phpMyAdmin when you work as webmaster and want to dive into MySQL and learn about PHP? No, that won't do. Something happened when I installed the nVIDIA drivers - that was the only thing I did different apart from the normal use during earlier sessions. Earlier installations of programs, both from SuSE-DVD and usr-local-bin, never affected Apache or stopped it from starting at boot. /Lars John Lamb wrote:

It works for me. I have had no problems with phpMyAdmin. Apache2+php is not recommended for a production webserver. But if you have a production webserver, you probably never switch apache off. So switching it on is not a big issue.

Let me add, me too. In other words, Apache will not start at boot but will start manually AND I have the NVidia driver. Avi On Friday, Jul 18, 2003, at 01:53 America/Chicago, John Lamb wrote:

That must be it! I also have nVIDIA drivers installed. I admit that I don't recall what was Apache's behaviour without those drivers since I installed them right after system install, but I never had any problem with any OSS before and nVIDIA's drivers aren't OSS... Anyway... as as workaround you could place the following in a cronjob /etc/rc.d/apache status > /dev/null if [ ! $? ]; then /etc/rc.d/apache start; fi which would start Apache if it is down for whatever reason. -Stathis

With 8.2 if he manually copies the TTF files into the directory above then runs SuSEconfig then that's all he would be required to do. With 8.2 ya don't have to use the KDE control centre to install the fonts. He would just have to restart KDE and KDM as well. :) -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.
