I don't have the commands updatedb and locate installed. I tried installing db-utils with yast, but still no joy. I cannot determine what package contains these commands. Thanks ahead for any help. Albert

"pin locate" and/or "pin updatedb" will give you the answer. Greetings from Bremen hartmut

Just download ARCHIVES.gz from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.0/ and copy it to /var/lib/pin/. -- Homepage http://scott.exti.net XFce desktop environment http://www.xfce.org Goodies for the XFce desktop http://xfce-goodies.berlios.de GPG public key ID: 811B00AB

Thanks, Scott. It didn't occur to me that a .gz file would be on the ftp site. -- "Don't you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it."

Check if the server has an 'ARCHIVES.gz', download it and copy it to '/var/lib/pin/ARCHIVES.gz' I can not test this, but I'm interested to know if it works. If the file is not on the server, then you could ask somebody to send it to you - it is 8.6 Mb for SuSE 8.2. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Yes. The server(s) have this. Thank you. -- "Don't you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it." -- George Orwell as Syme in "1984"

He was referring to the output you get from initially running the pin command: no file /var/lib/pin/ARCHIVES.gz found please insert CD1/DVD in your first CD-ROM/DVD drive and press enter, i will copy it for you!
