ftp.ale.org/pub/suse/i386 No actual apt repository in there. For 10 there isn't much of packages, but there are few for older versions. Would anybody know if they would be willing to host an apt mirror. ? These basic folders have most of the programs a typical user will be using: rpm ftp://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt SuSE/10.0-i386 rpmkeys base java update extra mozilla suser-jengelh suser-scrute funktronics packman suse-people openoffice security After adding it to /etc/apt/source.list, then simple: apt-get update or apt-get install wpa-supplicant or which ever program This could not be any easier.:) Lucas Ken Schneider wrote:

Please do not top post. Try using "smart" a new package manager that is going to replace apt anyway. The only thing I don't like about it is that it does not show the installed version of a program along with the available version. Need to dig deeper to find that info. It shows all available versions even if that choice is only an older version. Other than that I think it is a great program. automatically comes with a number of channels and it is easy to add others. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998

ALEers,
Below is a post on the Suse Linux list wondering if ftp.ale.org would
be willing to host a SUSE apt repository.
Apparently there is not a US based mirror for the above.
I don't use apt, so it would not benefit me personally.
Greg

Is the above an official SUSE site? If so I surprised to see some of the RPM collections look to be non-SUSE in origin. Greg -- Greg Freemyer The Norcross Group Forensics for the 21st Century

That is the repository that comes with apt on suse. Therefore i assume it is their official one. It has most of the programs I need, it just being so far makes it very slow. lucas Greg Freemyer wrote:

The _only_ "official" SUSE site is ftp.suse.com all others are mirrors. And there really is _no_ official SUSE apt site. The use of APT is not
