Hi All!; I've got an old 486/33, the bios is dated 6/6/91. I have two HDs on it. I want to replace the Linux only disk (hdb) with a larger one (now it's 120meg). I was told that I could only use up to a 520meg HD. Is this right? What would happen if I tried a bigger one. TIA! Just make sure you get a disk manager like EZ-Drive from Western Digital. I have a similar old Dell. You can use the bigger harddrive as hda because it just fits in under the 1024 cylinder limit. On those old machines, it turned out to be around 540 meg as the bootable limit. You can use a big drive in it, you just need to make sure that you have your /dev/hda1 less than 520 megs, so it will boot. Then put whatever you want on the rest of the disk. When using huge disks as hda, I have resorted to creating a 1 sector (as small as possible) primary partiton as /dev/hda1. Then I install linux and mount /boot on /dev/hda1. When I install lilo, it always works cause the boot loader is the first thing on the disk. - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
