Hi All, Just installed the SuSE 9.2 vers. on this AMD Sempron 2200 based system. Going about trying to install software, ...it requires PKG-CONFIG So I logged in as root and got PKG-CONFIG and ./compile make, install... no problems... Then trying to install libgnome-2.8.1 I get this error:
Did you install pkg-config from source? There is a pkgconfig rpm available with 9.2 - I know that for 9.1 using the SuSE specific version solved a similar problem for me.

Thanks David, sometimes I get those blinders on.... I WAS trying to install from source (I guess... I was doing the ./configure make routine in a terminal.) I guess I got off-track because when I searched for pkg-config in YaST I got "no results". So I went in search of the latest package stupidly not considering the fact that not ALL packages work with SuSE...I just found the most recent version and started trying to get it installed... stupid newbie mistake I guess. But I didn't find an .rpm for 9.2 on the DVD I burned from the iso download. Nothing on packman, or rpmfind either, but I did find a 9.1 version and installed it with no problems. Had all the same issues with libgnome, not on the 9.2 CD, so I got an .rpm of that too...for SuSE... Now Firefox 1.0.1 has installed and is working nicely. Gotta go look at Jeff's answer closely too so I can learn a little more.... Thanks for the push guys. In a world without walls or fences, who needs Windows or Gates?
