[opensuse] Broken Gnome Files?
OpenSuSE 10.3, Gnome 2.20.0, OpenOffice.org 2.4.0. For some reason gnome has stopped recognizing some of my ODT files, specifically OpenOffice.org writer. I'm not even sure how to describe the problem. All I know is that when I click on some of the icons, I get the message "run in terminal or display or cancel or run". And it tells me that this file is an executable text file, just like you'd get if you try to click on a gedit file for example. To make matters more confusing, some of the files will open properly. This looks suspiciously like a corrupted file, but I have no idea which file it might be. if you execute OpenOffice.org first, and then use OpenOffice.org to open the file, then the file will open normally. This is not a major problem, but it is an irritant. If anyone has any ideas on this problem, I would be most pleased to hear them. Thanks in advance. It sounds like the permissions on the files are wrong for a start - you shouldn't be told they're executable. Had they been copied from an external drive (USB key drive for example)? That would normally result in this. Anyway, right-click on the offending files and select properties. On the permissions tab, uncheck "Execute:" Double-check what the file type is associated with on the "Open With" tab. It ought to be OpenOffice.org Writer. -- James Ogley, openSUSE Member: GNOME Team and Planet SUSE. riggwelter@opensuse.org http://opensuse.org/GNOME http://planetsuse.org openSUSE: Get It, Discover It, Create It at http://www.opensuse.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
