Hello guys I have experienced a problem during SUSE9.1 install. I have a PIII 833, 256+128MB RAM, grafic card card i815. The problem is that I put in the first CD into the drive, it starts and I choose install from the menu. It starts to load the kernel, after the kernel has been loaded(not started) the machine reboots. I have tried to choose another menu entry: manual install, safe install the problem remains the same. A have also tried to disable the splash screen (splash=0, acpi=off, idedma=off) no use. I have also tried to remove the 128MB RAM no change, I have removed the 256MB RAM no change. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Zsolt

I had the same problem with my Giga-byte motherboard. Try curing it by choosing APIC interrupt mode in BIOS -- where before it was PIC that only worked in 8.2. On my motherboard setup it's under "BIOS Features". I remember getting bitten by this, but the other way round, when I fitted this motherboard and used an existing hard disk installation. Hope this helps, Jason

Thanks Jason, but I do not have that option in the BIOS. I have searched it twice with no result, but thanks anyway. Maybe any other suggestion? Zsolt

Try 'noapic' as a boot option for the setup? This is different to acpi... HTH, Jason

HTH,

I have tried that also, a have also disabled the apm in the BIOS, tried the install safe mode(ide dma off, apm off, acpi off, splash=0, noapic) no use. I have a colleague here who has the same configuration as I do and the phenomenon is the same on his computer. I just cannot understand why. There was no problem with the previous SUSE versions so far. Zsolt

Me too. Same machine/processor. I'm beginning to think they put some asm instruction that hungs the pentium III. I had no problem with other pentium4/Athlon I owned. SuSE :( Guillermo
