Hi All, Using KMail 1.3.1 (KDE 2.2.1), SuSE 7.3. I like to read my mail sorted by thread. The annoyance comes in when reading mail in a thread made up of messages that have arrival dates that are later than the dates of the messages below this particular thread. Annoyance = If I delete the top message of the current thread, then the highlight drops down to the next message in the current thread. So far so good. The annoyance is that KMail then resorts the messages based on the new highlighted message. Now the highlighted message header might be down at the bottom of the header list. This is very annoying, as the highlight jumps up and down the message header list as you delete read messages. Does anybody understand what I mean? Does anyone else share this same annoyance? Is there some way to configure KMail to not do this? I really like KMail except for this annoyance. Cheers

Yes indeed. I saw this, it annoyed me, I couldn't quite figure out what it was doing, and turned off threading. This is known behaviour of kmail. And it is a works as designed according the current main developer of kmail. As with all open source software you're invited to sent a patch to change this behaviour the way you want it. However, as many people already complained and does not seem to be trivial to develop the right patch. Perhaps a petition signed by many people, kindly begging the kmail developers (at kmail@kde,org) may work .... Op maandag 18 februari 2002 18:56, schreef Jerry Van Brimmer:

Well, I'm no programmer, just a user. And this is enough of an annoyance for me not to use it. In the mean time I will continue to use Sylpheed or Netscape/Mozilla. But, I really like using an independent emailer, so I'll wait. On Mon, 18 Feb 2002 20:21:32 +0100 Richard Bos <allabos@freeler.nl> wrote: trivial to the list.

'abook' will do what you want for addresses, email, etc. And it interfaces nicely with MUTT. -- Pat Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 Registered at: http://counter.li.org

I have no idea, but it is very functional.

I did, once. But the learning curve turned me off. Is there a quick-and-dirty tutorial somewhere that can et me going with it quickly?

It has tons of examples of .muttrc's and you can just grab one..use it for a bit and as you read the docs and other stuff..tweak it to your liking. Once you've done this..should be all good. Ever since I changed to Mutt sometime ago..I just don't care for other email clients. :) -----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====----- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org -----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====----- "I've never been quarantined. I would say: until this is fixed in a future release, uncheck Folder-->Thread messages and click Subject (above the subjects), so the messages are sorted by subject in alphabetical order. There you have your threads back, but this time without quirks! A nice feature of kmail is that the leading "Re:" is not taken into account when sorting the subjects alphabetically, so the original posts are not separated from the replies. FWIW, I have KMail 1.2 running on Blackbox. SH

Yea, but then the dates are all jumbled up!
