hey folks
I have been trying to upgrade from suse 6.4 to 7.0 and have had a few problems with certain program that would not install and would error out and stop the upgrade. Some error would give me the error "error getting record libX11.so.6 from //var/lib/rpm/requiredby.rpm" and other times it just says "error" and stops the upgrade. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks chuck
I know that some might disagree, but my experience and others has shown the <<<best>>> results are gained from a fresh install. If /home is on a separate partition, tuck away all your data, remember -- DO NOT FORMAT /home -- and start from scratch. With a major upgrade, I'll make sure the saved data is somewhere like /home/storage. Then I can remove the /home/username directory and start from scratch with all the user configuration stuff as well. Whole lotta work, tho'... -- Steve

I usually make a backup of the needed /Mail and /root as well as any other files I need from upgrading. The I run a fresh install. Now that I have cd recorder X-CD-Roast works great for this. Best Regards <p>W.D.McKinney (Dee) deem@wdm.com

I wanted to take advantage of the ReiserFS and so I reformated all my partitions except /boot. Other than my stupidities SuSE 7.0 has been working great! KDE2 is also excellent, despite the ocassional crash of some of the apps. JLK
