Hi, RealPlayer8 on 8.1 is working fine for all users (family members) except one. When it starts the message appears "Cannot open the audio device. Another application may be using it." Sometimes it runs but there is no audio. If the "first-time.rm" file is clicked RP8 runs OK once and therefter not. I have to log out and in again. I have checked all the obvious settings and compared them with those for the other users but there were no differences. Any suggestions ? -- John

Do you use KDE? If so, chances are high that artsd is running. In that case, start realplayer like this: 'artsdsp realplay' That way it will be tricked into not directly trying to open /dev/dsp but instead device artsd provides. This will also allow other ARTS aware programs to play sounds concurrently, so for instance you get audible notifications from KDE while RealPlayer is running. For the record: The fix that has worked is the enter "artsdsp mozilla" and "artsdsp realplayer" in the respective desktop icon execute property. I found that "artsdsp mozilla" was necessary to ensure that realplayer would work when invoked from within mozilla when a sound or video stream is clicked. -- John
