Hi all, I've just convinced a friend of mine to install SuSE 7.3. Everything went fine except now he is asking me how to connect to the net via his Telus Velocity ADSL connection. I'm running cable so this is new to me. I don't have alot of time today to research this and he is getting frustrated and I'm afraid of loosing him back to WinBlows haha. If anyone can please help with this urgent situation, that would be greatly appreciated. Especially another Telus ADSL user. With the amazing state that the SuSE distro is in, I know I could convince him that linux is the answer, but having a net connection is the key here. Also, he has an SMC EtherEZ ISA network card that wasn't picked up on install, even though it was detected on prior attempts at running linux <ie SuSE 7.2,6.4 etc> Thanks all -- Mark Doucette kranked@oberon.ark.com WinFree and Lovin' it. I have been using Telus ADSL longer than I have been using Linux (SuSE 6.2) and the setup to Telus is truly a no-brainer; with a working ethernet card. I strongly suspect that the problem is entirely related to network card not being recognized. To fine tune the Telus ADSL connection Yast2 -> Network Basics -> Hostname & DNS and then add "Hostname" (his userid) and "Domain Host" ( mine is telusplanet.net). He can add the Telus server addresses to the nameserver list, but this is not necessary. BTW I have helped people set up SuSE on Telus in the past and have had functional internet connections on Telus ADSL without adding the Hostname or Domain Name. You probably need someone to provide real information about how to get the SMC card recognized in SuSE 7.3. I have one of those cards here and the the EtherEZ ISA is also known as SMC8416??, if this helps any. Perhaps go into Yast2 -> Network Basics -> Network Card Configuation. Look for something like SMC Ultra or SMC 8400, if not those then the ever popular Tulip or NE drivers, if those do not work go through the entire list and find one that works. Hopefully someone on the list will be able to say which network card driver to use and either through Yast or a modprobe command the card can be recognized by SuSE. The Telus ADSL is not likely a problem. -- Ralph Sanford - If your government does not trust you, rsanford@telusplanet.net - should you trust your government? DH/DSS Key - 0x7A1BEA01
