I've been using apt/synaptic to update my system and I did something that messed up my fonts. It seems that it has only affected kde but I don't think it's related to my jump to 3.1.3. I think I noticed it before I upgraded. When I open the Konsole / xterm I get this message ... -- Font `-misc-console-medium-r-normal--16-160-72-72-c-80-iso10646-1' not found. Check README.linux.console for help. I tried to find the readme but couldn't. I checked dvd2 but couldn't find the source package named console or konsole. I also searched through the archives but couldn't find an answer. I updated XFree86 , qt3, kde, some gnome stuff, as well as some other apps, but I'm not sure what is causing the problem. I've since dropped back down to the dvd version of qt3, XFree, the fonts and gtk but with no luck. I also changed /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdmrc to the kdmrc.SuSEconfig version, but that didn't help either. Anyone know how to get rid of this annoyance? TIA Franklin Maurer Using SuSE 8.2 Pro

I think I saw that message as well. IIRC, I ran fonts-config -f, and that took care of it. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM. That is the font /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/console8x16.pcf.gz. (According to my fonts.dir in the same directory.) It appears yours is missing or corrupt. I don't know about konsole but you can start xterm with eg, xterm -fn 10x20. -- Vic Ayres http://www.buckiechoral.org.uk

I encountered the same problem, but I worked around it by using custom fonts which can be set using the menu: Settings -> Character type -> Adjusted (that my translation, but you get the idea...) -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

Thanks Richard. Just for those following along at home it was settings -> font -> custom -> choose from list -> save settings. I think I tried that but forgot the last step ... saving my changes ... d'oh. -- Franklin Maurer Using SuSE 8.2 Pro
