Help The graphics card on my SUSE10 linux box decided to pack up, actually just the fan, but it seems to have cooked itself now :( I've dropped a new graphics card in, and can at least start the machine as far as a text login prompt. Can someone kick me in the right direction to get this new card installed so that I can get back to kde desktop ;) -- Lester Caine - G8HFL ----------------------------- L.S.Caine Electronic Services Treasurer - Firebird Foundation Inc.

Um, seeing as the OP lost his graphical session, I doubt yast2 will work. -- Tux #395953 resides at http://samvit.org playing with KDE 3.52 on SUSE Linux 10.0 $ date [] CCE +2006-04-18 W16-2 UTC+0530

Yes, you can run Yast in text mode, no problem, it looks the same as in graphics mode, just without graphics :-). If you run it in runlevel 3 you can also call sax2 from there (if I remember correctly Yast will run in level 1, too, but then calling sax will not work - well I'm not sure...) Running sax3 after an init 3 sorted all my problems, and the machine is now back in graphics mode ;) -- Lester Caine - G8HFL ----------------------------- L.S.Caine Electronic Services Treasurer - Firebird Foundation Inc.

if you go to runlevel 3 ("init 3") you should be able to start sax2 and then configure the new card, I guess. Hope this helps. Daniel -- Daniel Bauer photographer Basel Switzerland professional photography: http://www.daniel-bauer.com special interest site: http://www.bauer-nudes.com

Ta all! THAT was the kick I needed, sax2 just needed a help to pick up the new card. One gets so used to the graphic way of getting to things ;) -- Lester Caine - G8HFL ----------------------------- L.S.Caine Electronic Services Treasurer - Firebird Foundation Inc.
