Does anyone know of a good tutorial for customizing and compiling one's own kernel? I'm using SuSE 8.1. Thanks! -- "Turd Ferguson. Yeah, he's a funny guy." ~Burt Reynolds (As portrayed by Norm McDonald of SNL)
http://www.google.com search for Linux kernel hacking andi think kernel hacker is actually a website, that would be a good place to try. good luck. -- Kill the lights, let the candles burn behind the pumpkins’ mischievous grins, And let the skeletons dance. Sure. Start here. http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Kernel-HOWTO.html Then play around a bit with building some kernels. Personally, I haven't had to build a new kernel since something like 2.4.9 was released. More recent ones that ship with distros seems to perform well and are stable. Of course, YMMV as always. -- John LeMay KC2KTH Senior Enterprise Consultant NJMC | http://www.njmc.com | Phone 732-557-4848 Specializing in Microsoft and Unix based solutions

A few tips. Start with make mrproper; make oldconfig; make menuconfig; this gives you the same kernel settings as the one suse supplied and so you can be sure nothing will break*. Then once you have that working you will know what your doing and you can go and play with all the settings to make your kernel suit you more. * almost :) - -- Richard Fletcher, Sheffield, UK. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE+N6u1Fv+mlSC+6l4RAsOcAJ0XQ9m+2PaPPpRhJDfrV0OrTmREvwCfeWNz Djuth+FSzbypJ1sQM9TZohw= =y2ox -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
