[opensuse] Will this HP-laptop fully work with openSuse?
Hi everybody, I searched HCL and HKL (german) and google for the HP Pavilion dv9760ez Notebook but couldn't find infos... I'd like to install openSuse 10.3 Anyone has running this model? Any problems? It contains a NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8600M GS which I cannot find in HCL. Will this card fully word (incl. 3D) The telephone"support" wans't even able to tell me which motherboard etc. the peace contains. Shoud I take this a a bad sign and keep my fingers off HP? The notebook contains these parts I'd like to have running - if I buy it...: - "*D Sound Blaster Pro *comaptible* Sound" - Altec Lansing Spakers - "Lightscribe Super Multi DVD-burner (+/-R +/-RW)" - 5 in 1 card reader - webcam with integrated microphone - 56K High-Speed-Modem - integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN - Bluetooth® Wireless network service - finger print reader - HDMI-, RJ11-Modem, RJ45 Ethernet- connectors - S-Video-TV-outlet - Headphone outlet - Microphone inlet The only part I found in HCL was the Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG, that shuld work. But how about the rest? Any infos? Would be great. Thanks! As a rule of thumb, HP is one of the most Linux friendly laptops going. I wouldn't think twice about shrinking the windows partition and installing openSuSE on it. If you want to fully preserve you windows hard disk and not take any chances of a hiccup, then just buy another 120G drive for your laptop ~$65 and do the install on that. -- David C. Thanks for your reply, David. I now buyed the laptop (it already contains 2 140G HDs), for the first (and hopefully last...) time in my life saw this terrible propaganda loaded Vista, shrinked it to the minimum and installed openSuse 10.3 without any problem. Just for the sound I had to search the opensuse.org site a bit, but finally it works now, too. Even Webcam worked atomatically - suddenly I saw myself on my screen :-) As soon as I am sure that everything of the rest works too I'll remove Vista completely and then have another partition free... regards Daniel b.t.w.: "installing" the pre-installed M$-malware and then defragmenting that partition took longer than the complete new openSuse install incl. formatting the disks... -- Daniel Bauer photographer Basel Switzerland professional photography: http://www.daniel-bauer.com erotic art photos: http://www.bauer-nudes.com/en/linux.html Madagascar special: http://www.fotograf-basel.ch/madagascar/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

That's exactly what I ended up doing on my nw9445 HP laptop. The only thing I've found is that the built in card reader will only recognize SD cards and not XD or MMC cards. *shrugs* Oh - and it doesn't crash anymore. The one setup issue I had (documented somewhere on this lits) was that the Intel wireless somehow picked up the wrong driver version. I just switched it in YaST and I've never looked back. -- kai www.filesite.org || www.4thedadz.com || www.perfectreign.com remember - a turn signal is a statement, not a request -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
