I want to use my gpg key in my new computer. Do I just run "gpg --export secretkey.gpg"? If I export, that's not going to remove it from my current ring is it? Thanks, Tom -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems, Inc. 1.805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

Thanks, Tom -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems, Inc. 1.805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com I'd suggest: ZIP the .gnupg directory (in your /home directory), copy it to appropriate media & copy it to the other box. I have done this many times. (Though there probably are other ways, I think this is the absolutely easiest way to do it.)

Your right. That's pretty much what I did. I tried copying over just the secret ring then notice some other problems, so I just copied over the whole thing and it worked out fine. Thanks! -- Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems, Inc. 1.805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

I just copied the whole .gnupg directory over to my new system and replaced the old folder. Boom! Everything works.
Tom You got it... what could be simpler!? <G> I went through many contortions & finally decided to use the KISS rule. ;-) -- ..."Yogi" CH Namasté Yoga Studio "If music be the food of love, why can't rabbits sing?"

From: http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/signing.html <quote> How do your keys exceed the life of your software and systems (hardware)? It is possible to backup the directory $HOME/.gnupg as all gpg related information is stored there. Or export your build key with the following command: (gpg --export-secret-key KEY; gpg --export KEY) > FILE. As can be derived from the command this will export your public and secret key. The keys can than later on be imported with the gpg --import FILE command on the new software release or system. </quote> -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

-- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless ...Or, as I described in a previous thread, one can ZIP the .gnupg directory & copy it to the new box. You'll then have all keys on both boxes w/a minimum of fuss. :-) -- ..."Yogi" CH Namasté Yoga Studio "If music be the food of love, why can't rabbits sing?"
