RE:[SLE] PPP Woes / Networking problem in Kernel
I am afraid you did not give us anough information to deal with your problem. I do not remember your previous post so it might be there. My question for you is why are you using ppp for a ethernet connection? Or are you doing a ip masquarading exercize? I lose my ethernet connection and am going to a dial up account. With the stock 2.0.36 kernel of 6.0, I can connect to the net and ping etc okay. If I use a 2.2.14 kernel that I compiled, nothing happens when I connect to the net using PPP. I am not sure what I have missed as I followed the manual as far as I can see. Hello,
I am not sure what I have missed as I followed the manual as far as I can see. And still having problems, imagine that. For ppp stuff, you really want to throw every bit of information concerning your settings and relaed packages you installed, etc as possible. Kind of like telling you how to fix your car without knowing the make, mode, engine, etc.

If I remember right there has been some changes to ppp from the suse 6.0 to the new kernel I don't know if they effect the kernel or anything but as a general rule, when you update the kernel, update everything else also. SO I would either suggest getting 6.3 or updating your packages if you really want to use the 2.2.14 kernel. Austin Sean Rima wrote:

The SuSE 'handbook' has a section on upgrades from x to y version. I was trying to go through the PDF version, but my xpdf would keep crashing... Anyone know if this type of upgrade is covered there? Marco On Sat, 8 Jan 2000, Austin Morgan wrote:
