[opensuse] Samba server and accessing those shares
11.0 x86 64 with kde 4.1. Trying to access some samba shares and i keep getting prompted to enter a password and it never takes the password i enter. What i am trying to do is, this server is without any users meaning it only has root login. It is not in active directory domain however, i want to authenticate to AD. So when at a workstation, i enter the path to the share and enter an AD username and password. Since this share that lives on a samba server does not have any users except root, i never can auth. So in yast->samba server and on the ldap tab, is this where i enter the info to the AD server? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The YaST Samba Client module handles the domain join functionality you need. After you managed to configure this try to resolve one of the users maintained by AD by calling id "<Your Domain Name>\\<Login Name>" This uses the default separator '\' and therefore if has to be escaped by prefixing an additional \ char. Did you use smbpasswd on the samba server computer?
