[opensuse] Re: PDF in Firefox not working on 11.3

I have a problem with displaying PDF documents in Firefox in one machine. It used to work but over the past week or two it has stopped. When I click on a link to a PDF, I get a blank Firefox window. But if on the original HTML page I right-click and Save Link As, it downloads and saves the file just fine as it does if I download the file with wget.
In Firefox, check under Edit > Preferences > Applications and see what action is selected next to "PDF Document". Select "Always Ask" or "Use..." to invoke the tool that you are usually using to view PDF files. /~jc -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I don't remember making any changes recently, but then absence of memory doesn't mean I didn't do it! Thanks for the hint - I'll check that tonight Cheers, Dave -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Well, I changed the preference to open in the separate application and it worked. So then I changed it back to work with the plugin and now that works again as well. My hypothesis would have to be a minor bug in the last Firefox update, but who knows. At least its working again. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The Acrobat Plugin in Firefox is unstable since years. Not sure what the reason is but it often fails to display anything and the acrobat process is dead afterwards. I see that issue since Firefox exists and long ago stopped using the plugin. Unfortunately, some applications out there require acrobat - like forms or signed files. What I do is kill the parent of the dead acrobat (not FF, the wrapper) and try again. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Yes but its specifically the plugin that is most unreliable, rather than the reader application or even acrobat itself. So avoiding having FF use the plugin avoids most problems, if you can put up with the inconvenience. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Ah, you mean load the files with the reader as a separate application, instead of inside FF. Could be... - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
