[opensuse] Problem: "Message blocked due to spam content in email."
Hi, I have been using Thunderbird for years to send emails, both to group lists and to individual addressees. Suddenly, many of my outgoing emails have been blocked and marked as undeliverable. I am using opensuse 12.3, and 13.1 both with the same problem. I am using Thunderbird 17.0.7 from opensuse. I am using KDE 4.10.5 release 1 in opensuse 12.3. I have tried to do some investigation of this problem, and found that in the Thunderbird Help menu> Troubleshooting Information, there is a section that says that my mail is being blacklisted because Mesa is out of date, and to update it to version 7.10.3 or newer. Yet my current Mesa is 9.0.2 I don't know if this is causing the mail to be undeliveralble or if this is a separate problem. I have included most of the troubleshooting information below: Application Basics Name Thunderbird Version 17.0.7 User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:17.0) Gecko/20130620 Thunderbird/17.0.7 Profile Directory Open Directory (Local drive) Application Build ID 2013062000 Enabled Plugins about:plugins Build Configuration about:buildconfig Crash Reports about:crashes Memory Use about:memory Mail and News Accounts ID Incoming servers Extensions Name Version Enabled ID Test Pilot for Thunderbird 1.3.9 true tbtestpilot@labs.mozilla.com Important Modified Preferences Name Value browser.cache.disk.capacity 358400 browser.cache.disk.smart_size_cached_value 358400 browser.cache.disk.smart_size.first_run false browser.cache.disk.smart_size.use_old_max false extensions.lastAppVersion 17.0.7 gfx.blacklist.suggested-driver-version Mesa 7.10.3 mailnews.database.global.datastore.id d01084c3-4126-4847-9aa7-35a39f71dfc mail.openMessageBehavior.version 1 network.cookie.prefsMigrated true places.database.lastMaintenance 1374455498 places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages 102908 places.history.expiration.transient_optimal_database_size 164656250 Graphics Adapter Description Intel Open Source Technology Center -- Mesa DRI Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset Vendor ID nter Device ID set Driver Version 2.1 Mesa 9.0.2 WebGL Renderer Blocked for your graphics driver version. No, that's absurd. Nothing in you graphic engine has anything to do with your mail being clasified as spam. Some of this might: X-Spam-Status: No, score=-1.8 required=5.0 tests=BAYES_00,DKIM_ADSP_CUSTOM_MED, DKIM_SIGNED,FREEMAIL_FROM,RCVD_IN_DNSWL_HI,RDNS_NONE,T_DKIM_INVALID, URIBL_BLOCKED autolearn=disabled version=3.3.2 Or that your IP is blacklisted somewhere. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. OK, thanks for the pointer about the problem. But I don't know enough about this to know how to resolve it. Can you provide me with some more info about what to do to get the problem fixed? Is this something that my ISP might have done to me, that I need to get them to resolve? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Have you looked at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Cannot_send_mail The big issues are * is this being blocked by thunderbird or not? On my machine depending on the identity I'm using, the outgoing message goes to one of a number of ISPs OR to the postfix relay on my mail hub. An ISP may reject mail for a variety of reasons. My mail hub may reject at submission or the reject may happen when it tries to send out to the destination. So check the where. "Mesa" ? that's a graphics library isn't it? I see the line
gfx.blacklist.suggested-driver-version Mesa 7.10.3
So suggest reading https://wiki.mozilla.org/Blocklisting/Blocked_Graphics_Drivers#On_X11 Google is wonderful! -- "Context is everything" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, I looked at it a couple of days ago. It seemed indirectly to relate to the issue that I was having, but not exactly. That is why I posted this on the list. I needed more help.

So check the where.
My appeal to the list is to determine if there is an actual problem with something contained in the body of the email, or if it is something my ISP is doing and there is actually nothing wrong with the email itself. The settings for my smtp server are correct.

Thank you for this information. I will study it and probably ask for more help about getting this issue resolved. I just didn't think that the problem with the email was the graphics driver version.
Google is wonderful!

It is not. At the worst graphic driver issue will prevent you to see some content in attachments using email client internal viewer, it will not prevent email transport. -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Mark, When you write "blocked" do you mean the outgoing mail server you're connecting to refuses to accept the e-mails, causing them to get stuck in your outbox? Or, are these e-mails being returned as "undeliverable" after being accepted by your outgoing mail server, i.e. they're being "bounced" by the recipient's incoming mail server? If it's the latter, I'd be happy to inspect the headers from one of the bounced e-mails for you. Feel free to send one to me as an attachment off-list. regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Carl, the messages are sent out from two different computers that I use with the same results. After sending them, some, but not all of the messages are returned to me as being blocked for the reason I posted. I will send you a couple emails for you to look over. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Mark, You have two problems, neither of which is related to your graphics library (blacklisting driver modules is not at all related to e-mail blacklists.) "Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 554 5.7.1 Message blocked due to spam content in the message" This typically cryptic error message is a bit misleading. Your e-mail is being rejected by some number of mail servers because your system's present IP address (presumably dynamically assigned by your ISP) *and* the domain in the 'From:' e-mail address are on one or more SBLs (spam block lists.) The rejected e-mails that you sent me the headers for weren't actually evaluated by a spam filter for 'spammy' content. Instead, the receiving server discovered the source IP or domain was actively listed in an SBL and it simply refused to accept the mail. The easiest way to rectify this problem is to contact your ISP *and* the mail systems administrator who handles your 'From:' address domain. Forward the headers for them to inspect, just like you sent them to me. Don't be surprised if they interrogate you a bit about your mailing habits, use of mailing lists, frequency and volumes (if you're using mailing lists, are you rate limiting properly?) hth & regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

No, it is not your mail that is blacklisted but is the WebGL Renderer engine.
or if this is a separate problem.
your outgoing SMTP server believes you are an spammer, check if you are using the correct server for the account. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
