[opensuse] Question: Leap 42 and Icon in Taskbar
I just updated by test installation of Leap to the very latest whoopsies and found that 'ksnapshot' has been replaced by 'spectacle'. Fine, I knew about this change so 'No worries, mate'. I had 'ksnapshot' as an icon in the QuickLaunch section of the Taskbar -- but now that 'ksnapshot' has been replaced and removed from the system I still have the icon for 'ksnapshot' in the QuickLauch section of the Taskbar. But, of course, it no longer launches 'ksnapshot' and so I don't need the damn thing. But I cannot remove this icon for 'ksnapshot'. In openSUSE 13.2 it is simply a matter of right-clicking on the icon, selecting 'icon settings' and clicking on 'remove icon' or some such words. But not in Leap 42. Oh no. Jumping around the room with a dead chicken being swung over one's head doesn't remove the icon either :'( . Does anyone know, please, how to remove the icon -- or any icon for that matter! -- from the Taskbar? not for me, apparently, if I press "printscreen" it's still ksnapshot that come, I don't know why (fresh install)
But I cannot remove this icon for 'ksnapshot'.
clic first on the three bars (extreme right of the task bar) to open options, then the remove icon is in right clic on icon jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for this. But those developers are getting cunninger and cunninger..... now they are hiding commands/options in cunning places. Looking for things is like going on an Easter Egg hunt, with the eggs being hidden in more bizarre places every day! Basil, Do you have an extra devel repo that spectacle is coming from? They are only now working out the issues related to spectacle in Factory/Tumbleweed. I hope it hasn't been pushed to Leap 42.1 as a routine update yet (or even ever?) If so, I think there is a breakdown in the update release process for leap. Well, Greg, I did the normal "zypper three-step" when I booted into Leap and was notified that dolphin is to be zapped; further down the list I saw the entry "spectacle" which was going to be installed. And verily this came to pass and a great blackness descended on this system and there was much crying and gnasihng of teeth. Whether or not I have an extra devel repo for spectacle I know not as I am now cradled in the safe hands of 13.2.
If so, I think there is a breakdown in the update release process for leap.
LOL. Tell me about it! (All to do with QA I believe......) sorry if I missed something. I looked loosely at this thread since yesterday where I noticed a standard update triggered the removing of ksnapshot and the install of spectacle (from opensuse leap update repo)

I have not spectacle works when launched (from xterm or kde menu), as of the hot keys, shift-print and meta-print works, but not print alone, and I can't change the entry in kde config. I could change "ksnapshot" to "spectacle" in predefined actions / printscreen (in a .config/khotkeysrc) but spectacle still do not start I notice this thread do not anymore follow it's subject, I can open an other one if necessary thanks jdd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

As a general comment: spectacle is a royal PITA compared to ksnapshot! When you took a screen grab with ksnapshot and went to save it you had all the info you needed to save the grab *including* the name of a directory previously used and a suggested *file* *name*. With spectacle you get almost bugger all :-( BC -- Using openSUSE 13.2, KDE 4.14.9 & kernel 4.4.0-2 on a system with- AMD FX 8-core 3.6/4.2GHz processor 16GB PC14900/1866MHz Quad Channel RAM Gigabyte AMD3+ m/board; Gigabyte nVidia GTX660 GPU -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

And that may even be a logical result of ksnapshot being removed along with it's *history*, and spectacle not having any history. But feel free to keep deriding those providing you free labor. I'm sure they are thankful for you having thought of them, in your *own* way. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I just knew that you would have noticed by now my boo-boo above :-) . My reference above to 'dolphin' should, of course, read 'ksnapshot' :-) . Go to the panel settings for the taskbar. Now just mouse-over the icon, which raises a small panel above the taskbar. The panel contains two items: on the left, a selection for the settings (see note), and on the right a "close item" button. Click on the "close" button to remove the icon. Note: for a program launch icon, the "settings" choice is actually to select a keyboard shortcut for that item. For taskbar applets, it brings up the settings menu for that applet.
