I am using suse email server II for my enterprise emails can some one suggest any antivirus or email scanner which would scan the attachments for worms and torjans . is there any anti virus which checks for attachments and deletes them . Regards neeraj ...
Neeraj, A great virus scanner to use is McAfee Virusscan also known as UVSCAN. This is a shareware download that you can use for 30 days before you have to purchase it. I have it configured through Inflex, but I am sure that it can be configured using your current application. I don't believe their is an option to automatically delete the file, but I'm sure there is a way to atleast quaranteen it. (Again, this is something that Inflex does automatically as well.) I am using McAfee viruscan with Amavis, and it has been flawless for over a year. DAT updates are very easy. I'm not versed AT ALL in script programming, but I'm sure the process can be automated with a simple shell script. The files are easily downloaded from McAfee's website, then untar'd. The install script ran without a hitch on SuSE 6.4 and 7.1 I haven't upgraded since then, so I can't be of help with any other versions. Uvscan must be installed before Amavis, but after that, it's no sweat. (I did have a few perl modules missing when I started, but the documentation was very specific about how to get things going.)

Amavis does indeed quarantine the virus, and optionally notify the sender and/or the recipient of the infection. Feel free to ask questions on or off list if necessary. ~Dale ________________________________ Dale Schuster MIS Manager Lake Tahoe Horizon Casino Resort dschuster@horizoncasino.com

I'm using anomy sanitizer with SuSE 7.3 and postfix, so it should run for you also. You can filter attachments by regular expressions, or call an antivirus for some or all of them, and as antivirus I'm using AVP (well, is now called KAV). KAV have a version for mailservers that includes "plugins" for sendmail, postfix and qmail, but I like better to have sanitizer to control what to do because it gives me more flexibility (like directly ban executables or multimedia content).
